BBL Power Rankings Week 3

Published by Makem Takem Staff on

What a weekend of action we had.  Here is how it has affected the power rankings:

1st Newcastle Eagles (Up 1)

Not an easy decision to make but how they won against London City Royals was impressive and was clearly a message to the rest of the league.  We have taken note and given them top spot.

2nd Leicester Riders (Down 1)

Riders are still yet to get their BBL season underway and it could cost them.  The fixtures are already starting to pile up and if they do progress far within Europe their post Xmas schedule is going to be crazy.

3rd London Lions (-)

It is no longer surprising when Lions win and that is the sign of a team that has established themselves as a powerhouse in the league.  They will be threatening the top two but it may be a step too far this season.

4th London City Royals (-)

They are lucky to not have dropped down the rankings after they were well and truly schooled in the Newcastle on Friday.  They will either bounce back from that game or it could make them crumble, we will wait and see.

5th  Bristol Flyers (-)

They are warming up nicely and have developed a really strong team identity.  They could consider themselves hard done by for not moving up the rankings this week and if they hadn’t recently lost to the Royals they would have.

6th Sheffield Sharks (Up 1)

Are the early season wobbles behind them?  We are not sure but the strong win on the road to a buoyant Phoenix side on Sunday has seen them make a move in the right direction.

7th Cheshire Phoenix (Up 1)

Basketball in Cheshire certainly has a style and it is fully focused on the offensive end.  That will get you so far and that was shown in Surrey but it will also cost you games as well.

8th Glasgow Rocks (-)

Where do we start with the Rocks.  They have had a tough start to the season and the bold decision to choose IQ over athleticism is not paying off.  It will have to soon or they will drop out of the power rankings top eight.

9th Surrey Scorchers (Down 1)

Their first win of the season on Sunday against Giants will be a huge relief and may trigger a restart to their season.  The big concern is how easily Phoenix ran over them on Saturday, still plenty to work on.

10th Plymouth Raiders (Up 1)

Raiders continue to show that at the Pavilions they are very competitive and has earnt them a move up the power rankings.  They do however need to win some games on the road to show that they deserve to move further up.

11th Manchester Giants (Down 1)

They will be disappointed not to take the win against Scorchers on Sunday and it may be a signal of their ceiling at the moment.  It will take another step up for the Giants to make it into the power rankings top 8.

12th Worcester Wolves (-)

Things for Worcester don’t look much better.  They will be buoyed by the huge comeback that fell short against Bristol but they are surely more concerned to have fallen so far behind in the first place.
