BBL Power Rankings Week 14

The first power rankings of 2019 are here and things are becoming a little bit clearer.

1st London Lions (-Up 1)

They will chalk down 2018 as the best ever for the franchise and things are looking like 2019 will top that as well. They are within touching distance of silverware but there will be challengers on the way.

2nd Leicester Riders (-)

They continue to stutter and a few more bad results will see them drop out of the top two for the first time this season. A big game against Sharks this weekend is critical to their season.

3rd Newcastle Eagles (-)

Eagles are a frustrating team as some games they look like league killers and other games they look completely lost. If they can find some consistency they could make a late challenge for the league.

4th Sheffield Sharks (-)

You beat the Riders on the road one week and loss by a ton to the Giants at home the next. What is going on in Sheffield is anyone’s guess but one thing is for sure they will be a problem for whoever they face in the playoffs.

5th  Bristol Flyers (-)

Flyers hot start to the season is cooling off but they are still stacked with talent that can get them a win against any team in the league. The time has come for them to go up another gear but do they have one?

6th Plymouth Raiders (Up 1)

Raiders are one of the only teams that continue to improve week on week. This has seen them sneak into a top-six spot in the power rankings. They are surely going to plateau soon and when they do we will see where they will end up.

7th London City Royals (Down 1)

The Royals have brought together probably the best British based roster the BBL has ever seen but they are yet to gel together. The idea was that bringing Brits together would make the chemistry easier, so far the evidence points to opposite of this assumption.

8th Manchester Giants (Up 1)

They rely heavily on six players but are still getting results. Not sure this a long term strategy so another addition to the roster could be a game changer for the Giants.

9th Cheshire Phoenix (Down 1)

Gettys should now be settled back in Cheshire and we should see what the new look Phoenix style can do. Not sure it see them break into the top eight but January will provide us with an answer to this question.

10th Glasgow Rocks (-)

Rocks had a 2018 to forget and will be hoping for a fresh start in 2019. The Playoffs are probably going to be out of reach as other teams are improving at a greater rate. That said if they can sneak in you wouldn’t want to face them.

11th Surrey Scorchers (-)

They beat the Royals with just 6 players but another one looks like he has left so are they going to run 5 guys for nearly 40 minutes each? This is a recipe for a desperate second half of the season.

12th Worcester Wolves (-)

It is hard to be motivated to write anything about Worcester. I imagine they asked Santa for a time machine to fast forward the next 5 months. Bring on the summer for all involved with Worcester Wolves.
